It is very frustrating, but I really appreciate everyone trying to help me troubleshoot. Firstly, a Qobuz account is required (1-month free trial available). I can still search/select songs/albums and see them added into my queue, but they won’t play. It has a good internet radio function including about a dozen FLAC stations. One omission on that version of mConnect is the lack on an Internet function but that is in fact one useful feature in the iFi Stream app. Normally this works well - I can search for just about anything in the Qobuz ecosystem and play it through my K50. Will play whatever Qobuz is providing including all the Hi Res versions. Sometimes I want to play something I don’t own by streaming it via Qobuz. The app opens normally and gives me options to play my music, search, play the favorites I identified in Qobuz via my web browser etc.

The server functionality to forward different bitrates to individual players is already there. On the android tablet I have when using Chromecast some of my playlists in Qobuz are big enough that when you attempt to scroll to the bottom of the play list, it stops at about the 200th track and then you have to click on the 'show more' link to continue scrolling through the rest of the list. I wonder how much effort it would be to change this. So I guess the Qobuz plugin is designed to ask for the lowest common bitrate. Indeed, this is how it works when I play back from my own music library. Qobuzs comparatively high price has always been partly justified by its exhaustive library of hi-res music (FLAC 24-bit up to 192kHz). To get the best audio quality, it should happen as late in the process as possible so immediately before sending the signal out from the server to the individual players. I am a little surprised the bitrate reductions happens this way though. When I pull the RPI player running squeezelite out of the group, it plays hi-res (it has a Hifiberry Digi+ pro on it - I should put that in my signature too )
